fold hands and pray to holy bagmati in traffic.
go to heaven without any beef
only goats metabolized.
replace tubes of fair & lovely every two weeks
and to be fair, employ
a sarki in our own home,
gift a crimson pashmina to his wife for teej
eat with them on the same table
don’t discriminate
only 'arrange' marriage.
leave home by choice
then browner,
then victim.
still, worship the cow- never touch beef
only human flesh is on the table.
there is blood. there is blood. there is blood.
bagmati: a river that flows through the Kathmandu valley (holds religious significance)
beef: caste hierarchy has been upheld in some of the most basic things like what we eat. upper caste brahmins don't eat beef because cow is our holy animal. muslims and lower caste communities are deemed impure/less than because they are beef eaters- some have literally been lynched to death as punishment.
fair & lovely: popular fairness cream which holds a history rooted in anti-blackness, racism and casteism.
sarki: dalit/ the lower caste. while untouchability has been criminalized, caste based violence is still in the everyday in nepal and other south asian countries.
teej: hindu festival where women fast for the longevity of their spouses.
